Moving Into Your First Apartment
You finally signed a lease, and the apartment is yours, how exciting! Although that can be overwhelming, with the right guide and resources, you won’t need to stress. Here is a list to help you with the necessities you’ll need to move into your first apartment.
Set up your utilities.
You want lights and heat, but you NEED your Wi-Fi up and running as soon as possible!
Purchase furniture.
This can get expensive. Scout sites like Facebook Marketplace where people are practically giving furniture away. You can always trade up later when your budget allows (or your tastes change – trust us, they will!)
Spice up your entry way.
Set the tone as soon as you walk through the door. Do you want the vibe to be warm and welcoming, fun and funky, modern and minimal? It’s your place – let your style shine!
Define your space.
Are you living in a studio? Have an open concept layout? The best way to define a space is with an area rug. Choose one that suits your style and adds color, texture and warmth to your living room. Is your eating area in the same room? Add a rug to anchor the table (chairs legs should fit on the rug). Pro tip: make sure that rug is easy care in case of spills!
Stock the kitchen.
Whether you are a wiz in the kitchen or you’re on a first name basis with the DoorDash driver, the kitchen is still one of the most important parts of your home. Potholders, oven mitts and kitchen towels are an inexpensive way to add color to the kitchen, or choose a print that makes you smile!
Purchase an extra set of towels.
Believe us, you need them. Whether you have unexpected weekend guests, or you just can’t get the laundry done, one thing you can never be without is clean towels!
Dress your windows.
Do you wake up singing at the crack of dawn? Add sheer window panels and let the sunshine in! Like to sleep until noon on weekends? Room darkening window treatments will keep you sleeping through brunch. Cover your windows however you like – but do it as soon as you move in. A little privacy is a good thing.
Meet your neighbors and scout the neighborhood!
